Spicy

Condensation flows off the windows like mountain streams,

While the incessant chattering of clientele penetrates my dreams.

The odour of black bean and chilli invigorates my breath,

As the waiter relays a never-ending stream of orders to the chef.

Locals watch me waiting for you in these vibrant surrounds,

In a cafe deep among the back-streets of Chinatown.

The joys and pains of the world are caught in the rhythms of the city,

Somewhere from deep in the heart stirs a new creativity.

They were sharing conversations of days gone past,

... when you walked in.

In the blink of an eye you turn the frowns of the world,

... into an open grin.

Another sip of green tea,

As you glance at me.

You want spicy? Do you want spicy? I want spicy.

We watch ice build on the sidewalk as the sun finally begins to set,

Yet the relentless production of kitchen reminds us not to forget.

The spices of the food renew the traditions of the ages,

As chatter erupts in laughter that transcends all our languages,

The textures of life blossom,

... in the pleasures of taste.

So promise me that this moment,

... will never ever go to waste.

Another sip of green tea,

As you smile at me.

You want spicy?

Love of my life,

You give me all the spice,

That my existence could need.

Please don't take your spice away from me.

Keep on sharing your creative energy.

Because I want spicy. Yes I want spicy.
